The library was broken into twice in 1967 and 1968.  Mr James sent a memo to council:

“The thieves entered the Library by removing the air conditioning grid. Both locked drawers were broken open and a small amount of change (not yet assessed) was stolen.”

The break-in’s prompted a memo from the Shire Secretary on July 16 1968:

“I am rather alarmed at the number of keys that have been distributed to members of staff...the more folk who have keys creates a problem of control...(staff) must not open up Library door during non-office hours”
