In April of 1969, Miss Paltridge wrote a letter to the Shire’s Town Clerk expressing her dismay about an article she had read in the Altona Star in which she stated:

“Council had suggested the Altona North tip as a possible site for a library.  Frankly this suggestion terrifies me...it would be a disastrous choice of site...You once showed me the site chosen for the library next to the shopping centre.  This is a good location – a place to which people travel for shopping and banking...I do hope the tip suggestion will not be seriously considered.”

Mr Waters replied:

“I am as alarmed as you...there is a [Council owned] library site...at 4 Murphy Street...and 2 Duke Street...your views will be made known to councillors...I share your alarm”
