In 2002 the Environment Resource Centre (ERC) was launched at the Altona Library. The name was changed to the EnviroCentre in 2012 after Council took over the ERC initials for the Emergency Response Centre.

The EnviroCentre's many initiatives over the years have included the introduction of solar panels, solar tubes, a solar hot water system, water tanks, sensor lights, and a unique collection of many stuffed animals.  Recently the EnviroCentre has coordinated the replacement of the old air conditioning system with a new, more efficient and sophisticated centralised system.
