Madame Brussels: This Moral Pandemonium

Madame Brussels was the owner of Melbourne's First Brothel

Tuesday, 18th August, 7.00pm - 8.00pm, Altona Library

Discover the world of Marvelous Melbourne’s Queen of Harlotry. LM Robinson charts the story of Madame Brussels, keeper of Melbourne’s most famous brothel, through the decadent 1880s and tumultuous 1890s. Lenny Robinson and her publisher Dale Campisi from Arcade Publications will discuss the life and legacy of Madame Brussels.

First Thursday Readers Group will discuss The Time We Have Taken by Steven Carroll. Book Group will focus on Romulus, My Father by Raimond Gaita and the Red Couch Book Group, which meets in a Cafe will chat about The Red Tent by Anita Diament.

Keys Please Driver Education

This 90 minute bi-lingual session in Karen and English is for learner drivers and their supervising drivers. Keys Please is presented by Vic Roads who will show how to get the maximum benefit from the learner period and how to become a responsible and safe driver.

Playstation Tournament - a Winner

Youth Foundations Grant awarded to Scott Hamil and Travis Burgio

Congratulations to local young people Scott Hamil and Travis Burgio for securing a grant through Youth Foundations Victoria

The grant has enabled them to purchase equipment to run a monthly Playstation Tournament at Altona Meadows Library and Learning Centre commencing on 6th August at 4.30pm.

Illustration Competition - Read It, Imagine It, Draw It!

Illustration Competition commences 26th August


The Friends of Altona Libraries Illustration Competition, now in its second year has a new and exciting theme, Read It, Imagine It, Draw It! The competition opens on 26th August, closes on 18th October and has a prize pool of over $500, further detail is available on the libraries' website.


Rhymetime in Altona Meadows

Rhymetime is a four week program for children aged up to 18 months. Designed to enhance their interactive and listening skills, the sessions include rhymes, finger plays, interactive play, songs and short stories.
