Home Library Service
What is it?
Hobsons Bay Libraries offers a free home delivery service to local residents who are housebound or unable to visit the library due to disability or ill health - as well as primary carers who find it difficult to visit a library as they are caring for a housebound person.
A delivery service can also be arranged for Hobsons Bay residents who are able to visit the library and select their own items, but are physically unable to carry items home.
How does it work?
One of our staff will arrange to visit you in your own home to discuss the Home Library Service and your needs.
After the visit the Library Staff will select books and other library materials for you based on your reading tastes and interests.
A bag of library items will be delivered to you every four weeks. Old material will be collected when new material is dropped off. Deliveries will be made on a pre-arranged delivery day.
You can also ask the Librarian about other Council services you may like to use and we can arrange for a council representative to contact you.
Who can use it?
Any resident of the City of Hobsons Bay who is:
- Unable to visit the library because of illness, frailty or disability.
- A primary carer who has limited access to the library while caring for a housebound person.
The service is available to you whether you are in a private residence, retirement village, nursing home or residential care.
We can also deliver to Williamstown Hospital.
* Residents who are housebound temporarily due to ongoing illness or restricted mobility may also be eligible for the service.
Home Library members have full access to the lending stock at all five of the Hobsons Bay Libraries.
- Books both Fiction and Non Fiction
- Talking Books on CD, Playaway, and audio downloads
- Music CDs, DVDs and Magazines.
It is also possible to specify the format of book you need, whether it be standard print, large print or audio.
Reservations for library items can be placed for customers, and borrowers can also request items on specific subjects or by a particular author.
As well as English there is the option to request stock in one of our eight community languages:
If you require a language other than those held by Hobsons Bay Libraries please advise us as we may be able to access them through Inter Library Loan system.
If you are fluent in speaking and reading in a community language listed above, have a keen interest in reading and would be interested in volunteering to assist with selection of items for our Home Library customers who access one of the languages above we would love to hear from you.
