Food for Fines

Food in box

Hobsons Bay Libraries’ annual Food for Fines program returns again this festive season.

Food for Fines provides library members the opportunity to give back to community members in need in the lead up to Christmas while also clearing any overdue fines you may have accrued over the year.

Donations of non-perishable food will be accepted at all branches from Monday 19 November to Sunday 16 December 2018 with each item of food ‘paying’ for up to $10 in overdue charges.

Donated food must be non-perishable (tins or packages) all packaging must be intact and the expiry date of the item must be 2019 or later. Co-ordinators from the Emergency Food Relief Agencies suggest staple foods such as tinned meat, fruit and vegetables or Christmas specialty items such as puddings, mince pies or shortbread are ideal.

Customers will have the choice to pay for their overdue charges with donated food or with money, and customers without overdue fines are also encouraged to donate food items. Food will be distributed to Emergency Relief Agencies within the Hobsons Bay area where items will be packaged into hampers for local families in need.

Please note: Food for Fines applies to overdue charges only. Other charges for printing, copying, lost or damaged items, etc. can only be paid with cash or by EFTPOS.
