Altona Library refurbishment

2Altona Library is getting a makeover!

To make way for the refurbishment the Altona Library will be closed from Monday 23 July until Sunday 5 August.

There will be a smaller, temporary library in operation on site from Monday 6 August to Saturday 29 September.

The library will reopen on Monday 1 October.

Mark Saturday 6 October in your diaries as we celebrate the re-opening of Altona Library with a family-friendly event from 10am to 1pm.

Temporary library and relocated programs

Library users will still be able to access library computers, print services, and Wi-Fi from the temporary library location.

After hours returns will not be available for the full period of refurbishment works (23 July to 30 September). If you need to return library items outside of opening hours please visit one of our other branches.

Customers can collect their reserved items as normal from the temporary library, located in the Altona Library meeting room.

From Monday 23 July to Monday 1 October, Wriggle and Read and Storytime sessions at Altona will relocate to the Community Meeting Space at the Altona Theatre, 115 Civic Parade Altona.

Let’s talk books on Wednesday 1 August and Wednesday 5 September will be held at the Louis Joel Arts and Community Centre at 5 Sargood St, Altona.

Items normally held in the EnviroCentre will be located at Altona North Community Library. All items can be reserved and collected from any library branch, including Altona, and the showerhead exchange program and the recycling programs (printer cartridges, mobile phones, and batteries) will operate from Altona North Community Library.

Works to be undertaken

Altona Library will be updated with new bookshelves, an improved layout, and repainting and recarpeting throughout. New lighting, new seating, and study spaces that take advantage of the natural light and the Logan Reserve view will also be part of the upgrade.

Library users will benefit from additional self-service desks, a new quiet study room, and a new community meeting room. The upgrade will expand the EnviroCentre and improve the connection to local environmental resources and information.
