The refurbished Altona library is open!

Opened in 1965 and now at 53 years old, the Altona Library is the oldest in Hobsons Bay. Refurbished in 1991 and again in 2018, this incarnation is another chapter in the library’s long and vibrant history and reinforces its place within the fabric of the Altona community.

New seating, lighting, carpet and fresh paint give the space a modern feel and new browsing bookshelves are also stacked with an extensive array of new collections. The library now includes more study space, including a quiet study space, an additional community meeting room, and a beautiful new children’s area.

The refurbishment has also resulted in an expansion of Hobsons Bay City Council’s EnviroCentre with improved connections to local environmental information and includes the installation of a new recycling station.

It seemed like the whole community turned up to the celebration on Saturday 6 October 2018.
