Create by the Bay - conditions of entry

Who may enter

  • All entrants must be residents, go to school in Hobsons Bay or be a member of Hobsons Bay Libraries.
  • All entrants must be in Prep to Year 12 in 2020.

How to enter and selection of winners

Entrants can submit one entry in each of the creative writing, visual creation and digital creation categories.

Creative writing category:

  • Short story entries for primary levels must not exceed 500 words for prep to grade three or 1000 words for Grades four to six. Short story entries for secondary levels must not exceed 2000 words.
  • Poetry entries have no minimum amount of lines.
  • Song entries can be lyrics only, or lyrics and music. Only the lyrics will be judged, but music may be considered for performance at the Exhibition Night.

Visual creation category:

  • Sculpture entries must not exceed dimensions of (H) 30cm x (L) 30cm x (W) 30cm. A photograph of any 3D pieces must be attached to the online submission for reference.
  • Collage entries must be two dimensional and not exceed A3 size.
  • Illustration entries must be two dimensional and not exceed A3 size.

Digital creation category:

  • Photography entries may be digitally enhanced. Entries must be submitted in JPEG, JPG or PDF format.
  • Digital illustration entries must be 2D and may include either/both raster and vector graphics. Entries must be submitted in JPEG, JPG or PDF format. Due to upload size restrictions of 50mb, it may be necessary to zip files before uploading.

General conditions

  • Entries must be submitted online in Microsoft Word, JPEG, JPG or PDF format and accompanied with consent of a parent or guardian.
  • Entries must be uploaded via the Hobsons Bay Libraries website by 11:59pm on Sunday 12 July 2020.
  • Physical entries (e.g. sculptures) are to be submitted at any Hobsons Bay Libraries branch, accompanied by an online form reference number.
  • Do not write your name on any of the submitted pieces.
  • Multiple paged entries must be numbered with the title of the entry written across every page.
  • Hobsons Bay City Council reserve the right to publish entries for promotional purposes. Copyright remains with the entrant.
  • Winners are selected by a judging panel of creative individuals from the community who donate their time to consider every entry.
  • Winners will be notified on the Exhibition Night, with winner’s names published in print and online.
