The game of Trugo has strong historic ties with the western suburbs and was first developed at the Newport railway workshops in c1927.
Informal games are believed to have commenced shortly after in Yarraville, which, in turn, prompted the establishment of Trugo clubs in Yarraville and Footscray in 1937.
