What is the ‘Book a Book’ home delivery service?

In response to the closure of library branches due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hobsons Bay Libraries are offering a home delivery service to all residents of the City of Hobsons Bay who are also a Hobsons Bay Libraries member. While our extensive eLibrary will continue to keep you well-stocked with reading and listening material while libraries are closed, we know there will be some who need physical books, DVDs and magazines during this time.  Items will be delivered to your door at no charge.

If you are not a library member, you can join online. Library membership is free.

How many items can I borrow?

In the interests of ensuring fair distribution of our library collections across as many households as we can service there is currently a limit of 25 items per household for each delivery. Limits may be applied for high demand items such as children's picture books.

Can I choose the items I receive?

We encourage you to browse the library catalogue to place reservations on specific titles that you would like to borrow and select Hobsons Bay Home Delivery as your pick-up location. Please limit your reservations to items listed as AVAILABLE as we have extended all items currently on loan until Sunday 30 August, so these items are extremely unlikely to be available before then.

Once you have registered your interest in the service, a library staff member will be in contact to discuss your reading and viewing preferences and will select a range of items from the collection they think you will enjoy.

We will do our best to satisfy preferences and specific requests, however, we hope you will be understanding that we may be unable to secure any or all reservations in line with your delivery.

How long can I have the items for? What do I do when I’m finished with the items?

Standard loan periods for library items have been suspended at this time. Items will be loaned until Sunday 30 August or until the branches of Hobsons Bay Libraries reopen (whichever is later).

Items can be returned to any branch of Hobsons Bay Libraries (return chutes remain open) on or before the due date. If desired, you can also leave any library items you wish to return in a waterproof bag at your front door for our delivery driver to collect when dropping off your next delivery.

How frequently can I get a delivery?

We can offer each household one delivery per calendar month (e.g. one delivery during July, one delivery during August).

Who can access this service?

The delivery service is available to all Hobsons Bay Libraries members who are also residents of the City of Hobsons Bay. If demand for the service exceeds our capacity to supply priority access will be given to Senior, Pension and Health Care Card holders.
