Stage 4 restrictions update

Stage 4 update 320x180In line with the State Government roadmap for reopening announced Sunday 6 September, there will be some changes to our library services:

Return chutes at all Hobsons Bay Libraries branches will reopen from 9am, Monday 14 September.

All items currently on loan have been extended until 26 October 2020. This includes all items – such as DVDs and magazines - that are generally for a 1 week loan period.

The 'Book a Book’ Home Deliveries and the Home Library Service will recommence from Monday 14 September.
Please note, we currently have a backlog of delivery requests in our system and appreciate your patience as there may be delays in getting your delivery to you. Click HERE to access the registration form and request a delivery.

What's still available?

We will continue to offer a range of virtual events for all ages and interests. Many regular programs including Storytime, Baby Bounce, Book Cub, Movie Club, English Conversation Club, Let’s Talk Books, and Novel Saturdays have been operating online and will continue to do so.

Access to eCollections

With your Hobsons Bay library card, you have access to over 10,000 eBooks, 5,000 eAudiobooks, many films and magazines, and a range of other online resources to keep entertained and learning during the closure. Research assistance

Our experienced Heritage Librarians continue to assist with family and local history research enquiries. A shutdown might be the ideal time to get stuck into researching your family tree, or the history of your home. Requests can be submitted here.

Library events and programs 

As much as anything, modern public libraries create amazing cultural experiences and opportunities for social connection. We are continuing to offer a number of our regular programs online.

You can now tune in to the Hobsons Bay Libraries YouTube channel for Stay-at-home Storytime each Tuesday and Thursday, as well as Baby Bounce every Wednesday morning, to continue the connection between little ones and the Librarians they know and love. We would love to see any reaction videos of your children or photos of your home Storytime set-up. When sharing on social media be sure to use the hashtag #HBLstorytime so that we can see what you and your little people get up to!

Book clubs

We are proud to have launched the Stay-at-Home Book Club - a new way for you to connect and engage with your fellow neighbourhood booklovers. Join us each month for a new book and a lively online discussion. Find out more about joining the Stay-at-Home Book Club and register your interest through our Library events page or via Facebook.

For younger booklovers, we have also introduced the new Stay-at-Home Family Book Club! Aimed at 8-12 year old children and their families, Stay-at-Home Family Book Club offers a virtual space for parents and children to connect with your library and share a love for some amazing books. SBS resources

SBS has launched the SBS Multilingual Coronavirus Portal, a dedicated online information hub for multicultural communities to easily access accurate and trusted news and information about COVID-19, in their language.

The portal provides one place where the many Australians who speak a language other than English can come to for the latest news and resources across more than 60 languages, produced by SBS Radio and SBS News.

The SBS Multilingual Coronavirus Portal can be accessed at sbs.com.au/coronavirus. The portal highlights key information and updates about COVID-19, including the latest news in English, and visitors can then select one of more than 60 languages to browse coverage produced by SBS in that language.

At this stage, we are seeking clarification from the State Government on whether the ‘Book a Book’ home deliveries and the Home Library Service for housebound residents is able to continue under Stage 4 restrictions. We will provide further updates on these contactless delivery services on our website and social media platforms when further information is available. Please note that no deliveries will be made after 5pm, Wednesday 5 August until clarification is received.
